Operations Director

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Leads, mentors and accountable for daily operations of clinical services staff to ensure excellent quality care and patient experience are provided in an effective and efficient manner.  Exemplifies the missions and values of Medical Park.  Assists the Administrator in translating the Strategic Plan into operating goals and works collaboratively with providers, staff and leaders in all departments to meet those goals.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:              Reports to Administrator

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:            Supervises Nursing Supervisor, Nursing Staff

FLSA STATUS:    Exempt


  1. Leads, mentors and accountable for clinical services and staff at Medical Park Family Care

  2. Assists Administrator in translating Strategic Plan into operating goals

  3. Collaborates with other leaders to ensure achievement of organization wide goals

  4. Models, communicates, and holds others accountable for the values and culture of the organization

  5. Rounding with staff and providers to ensure adequate firsthand knowledge of workflow issues.  Works through Nursing Supervisor and other leaders to problem solve

  6. Leads Safety and Quality programs to include but not limited to committee meetings, incident investigations and the evaluation and implementation of products, equipment or protocols to improve quality outcomes for patients and increase safety to patients and all employees

  7. Evaluates and negotiates contracts for supplies, equipment and purchased services pertinent to areas of responsibility

  8. Accountable for inventory control, ordering stocking and management of supplies, medications, vaccines, and other usable goods in areas of responsibility

  9. Accountable for personnel management - setting and holding team accountable to performance standards, hiring, and terminating of staff, annual reviews

  10. Accountable for meeting financial and operational and service metrics for areas of responsibility

  11. Accountable for development, regular review and updating of clinical Policies, Procedures and Competencies

  12. Demonstrates positive professional staff interactions, supports a culture of mutual support and understanding, one free from bullying and other behaviors that negatively impact morale. Remains objective during interactions with staff and patients, uses active listening skills.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned


  1. Current RN license with the State of Alaska preferred

  2. Master’s degree in business preferred


  1. Three or more years supervisory and or managerial experience required

  2. Outpatient / ambulatory clinic supervisory experience preferred


  1. High integrity and moral ethics, a model of professional behavior

  2. Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills

  3. Outstanding leadership and supervisory skills – known to mentor, grow and build excellent teams

  4. Excellent analytical and effective problem-solving skills, able to collaborate, manage and lead change

  5. Stays current with appropriate operational best practices, regulatory and compliance standards

  6. Self-motivated, able to balance personal follow-through with delegation to ensure goals are achieved

  7. Participates in on-going skill development both for self and staff

  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

  9. Experience with Electronic Medical Records, particularly with report writing preferred



  1. This position requires a full range of body motion may include lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying for items up to 50 pounds.

  2. This position requires frequent sitting, standing and walking throughout the day. 

  3. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  4. Frequent contact with employees, patients, and the public.  Public contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

  5. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when moving objects or occasionally assisting with patient transfers.


  1. This position occasionally exposes the Operations Director to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

  2. The position requires the use of universal precautions when tasks are being performed that may present the possibility of exposure to blood or body fluids; this includes the use of personal protective equipment and work practices.

  3. This position requires rounding through various departments which may include walking outside between buildings during the course of each workday.

  4. Employee parking consists of onsite and offsite parking and each employee may be required to utilize each depending on the circumstances.
